KASEY’S SECRET was a sorrel Arabian and Mustang cross. Born in 1980, Kasey stood 14.3 hands. During her career as a lesson horse, Kasey won numerous ribbons and won high point championship and New York State Fair many times. Her sweet, gentle demeanor with people allowed her to touch the lives of many. Kasey was very talkative and loved sweets. She retired to Ryerss Farm in June 2008. Kasey passed away on August 30, 2011.
STARFIRE SPARKY (“KIPPER”) was a blanket Appaloosa. He stood 15.2 hands. Born in 1977, Kipper’s career included pleasure riding, lower level dressage, hunter paces and parades. On Halloween he was known to go trick-or-treating. He retired to Ryerss in June 2002, where his best friends were Echo and Holly. Kipper passed away on June 26, 2011.
LARAMIE: Ryerss Farm became the forever home for Laramie, a 27 year old chestnut gelding on Monday August 25th, 2014. His heritage was uncertain but that is unimportant when you are a wonderful horse to hunt as was Laramie. He was fox hunted for many years with Radnor Hunt by his previous owner, Anne French Thorington. Laramie retired to Ryerss with his friends Tucker and Crafty and was well loved by the staff, visitors and volunteers. Unfortunately, we lost Laramie on April 4, 2017, at the age of 30, due to the increasing infirmities of old age. He will be missed by all and remembered as a kind and gentle soul who got along with everyone.
LAUFEN, from the German verb meaning “to run,” stood 16.1 hands. Born on February 13, 1984 in Pennsylvania, Laufen was purchased at the age of five by her former owner, with whom Laufen began her career in eventing, starting at the Novice Level and eventually competing at the Intermediate Level. She competed in the Radnor Hunt International Three-Day Event in 1992 and 1994. Traveling with her former owner to Vermont, Laufen took to the trails from 1996 through 1999. From 1999 to 2001, Laufen foxhunted with the Cheshire Fox Hunt. She retired to Ryerss Farm in September 2008.
Laufen was sired by Lanthan, a German Hanoverian Sport Horse. Lanthan won many awards in the US as the only Warmblood to succeed at the Advanced Level in the demanding sport of Three-Day Eventing, including 5th place in the CCI at Chesterland, 1st place in the Mid-Florida Olympic Selection Trials, and honors from the RHS. Laufen’s dam, was Demon Dancer, an American Thoroughbred, which raced for several years. Laufen loved spending time in the pasture with her favorite friend Matisse. They were a stunning pair! Laufen passed away on January 23, 2012.
LIAM (DUKE LIAM) was a dark bay Thoroughbred. Born in Florida in 1987, Liam held a career as a racehorse, winning four races. He retired to Ryerss in September 2005, along with his friends Yankee Star and Ruler. Liam was a part of the main barn herd, along with his pal, Maggie and they always could be seen together in the pastures, grazing contentedly. Sadly, on November 11, 2015, we lost Liam due to complications from an intestinal impaction. He was 28 years old. As one of the “old guard” in the barn, Liam will be missed greatly and remembered for his stately demeanor and kind nature. He was a favorite of all who knew him. R.I.P., Liam.
